Sharpening the Sword
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
This is the first Paladin Artifact Armor quest - otherwise known as AF1.
Start NPC: Ailbeche - Northern San d'Oria (J-8)
Requirements: Paladin 40+
Items Needed: None
Title: None
Repeatable: Yes, after AF is complete.
Reward: Honor Sword
Previous Quest: Father and Son and A Knight's Test
Next Quest: A Boy's Dream
Walkthrough
* Complete the Father and Son quest and make sure to give the Willow Fishing Rod back to the son.
* Talk to Ailbeche again.
* Talk to Sobane in (D-6) of Southern San d'Oria. Be sure to talk to her twice if you get a cutscene the first time - the cutscene is the beginning of the quest Signed in Blood and not part of this quest.
* Head to Ordelle's Caves, entering from the western most entrance, and look for a stalagmite around (H-10). The stalagmite is in the first small room above the large caverns. You can get to this location by taking the passage upward from (H-9).
* Spawn and kill the NM Polevik, an Earth Elemental. (Note: Can be killed on any job, as long as you have the quest.)
* Touch the stalagmite again to receive the Ordelle Whetstone.
* Talk to Ailbeche to complete the quest.
A Boy's Dream
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
This is the second Paladin Artifact Armor quest - otherwise known as AF2.
Start NPC: Ailbeche - Northern San d'Oria (J-8)
Requirements: Paladin 50+
Items Needed: Giant Shell Bug
Title: None
Repeatable: Yes, see Vingijard after AF is complete.
Reward: Gallant Leggings
Previous Quest: Sharpening the Sword
Next Quest: Under Oath and Borghertz's Stalwart Hands
Walkthrough
* After completion of Sharpening the Sword, speak with Ailbeche (J-9 in Northern San d'Oria).
* Talk to Ailbeche again and he'll request that you get him a Giant Shell Bug.
* Talk with Ailbeche's father Exoroche in the weapon shop in Southern San d'Oria for a cutscene. (K-7).
* Head to the Crawlers' Nest. Go to the center section and then north at the top of I-9 on the first map. This will take you onto the second map, the one with the other exit to Rolanberry Fields. On this map, go to the west side of H-9 and you'll find a ??? click it to spawn the NM Dreadbug. The Dreadbug will drop a Giant Shell Bug. Alternatively, you can often find Giant Shell Bugs on the AH.
* Trade the Giant Shell Bug to Ailbeche. (Note: This is not optional.) You can, however, go kill NM before you come back to Ailbeche and still pop the fish and trade the bait and then the fish to him one after the other.
* Head to Castle Oztroja.
* To get to the pool with the fish:
* Go beyond the Brass Door at I-8 on the first map to the next map, Castle Oztroja Map 3.
* On this map travel to G-7, which leads to Castle Oztroja Map 7.
* You will enter this map on the upper ledge. Follow the right wall to the doorway at I-7 which leads to Castle Oztroja Map 2.
* Follow the right wall to G-9 and take the path on the left, take another immediate left and continue until you come to a room of Yagudos with a round pool of water in the center at H-8. (This pool has Oozes in it. If you see Yagudo Parasites, you are at the wrong pool.) Clear the room.
* Equip the Giant Shell Bug and fishing pole, stand in the water and fish (type /fish)
NOTE:
* It doesn't matter who does the fishing, you or someone else in the group.
* You can fish it up with absolutely no skill in fishing, but it may take a while. (and you will risk losing your bait more often)
* The Yagudo in the room respawn about every 8 minutes.
* Seems to work with any fishing rod.
* The number of times you have to fish before you land it can vary from 1 to over 20.
* If you have never fished before, please practice so that you get used to the system. It is very easy to fish but if you've never tried you might lose your Giant Shell Bug. Practice with Little Worm as your bait at any pond where you can fish, such as the moat in Northern San d'Oria.
* Your line can break and you will lose your bait, so bring extra, just in case. Especially if you have no skill in fishing.
* (After a few times of not catching anything, I fished Odontotyrannus up with 0 fishing skill, so no need to go overboard with bringing extra).
* Fish up and then kill the NM pugil named Odontotyrannus.
* After killing Odontotyrannus, it turns into a Rare/Ex item of the same name.
* Take it back to San d'Oria and trade to Ailbeche. (Note: This is not optional either.)
* Trade the Odontotyrannus to Zaldon at H-9 at the Fisherman's Guild in Selbina.
* Head back to San d'Oria and speak to Ailbeche again.
* Return to Southern San d'Oria and talk with Exoroche again.
* Head into the Chateau d'Oraguille from Northern San d'Oria and go to H-7 in the gardens, where you will find the door to the Prince Royal's Room. Select the door for a cutscene with Prince Trion and to complete the quest.
Under Oath
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
This is the third Paladin Artifact Armor quest - otherwise known as AF3.
Start NPC: Trion - Chateau d'Oraguille
Requirements: Paladin Level 50+ San d'Oria Rank: 2 or Bastok/Windurst Rank: 3
Items Needed: Zvahl Coffer Key
Title: Paragon of Paladin Excellence
Repeatable: Yes, see Vingijard after AF is complete.
Reward: Gallant Surcoat
Previous Quest: A Boy's Dream
Next Quest: None
Walkthrough
* Go to Chateau d'Oraguille and click on the door to Prince Trion's chambers.
* After the cutscene, head to Southern San d'Oria and talk to Vemalpeau (M-7), who lives inside a small house.
* Then go to Lion Spring's Tavern and talk to Najjar.
* Next, head to Count Caffaule's Manor (B-6) and talk to Ullasa. Ullasa will tell you about Mique's Paintbrush. Once you see the reference to the paintbrush, you are flagged and can go key hunting.
*You do not have to be on PLD to complete the rest of the quest.
* Head to Castle Zvahl Baileys and seek out a Zvahl Coffer Key .
* You can obtain these by fighting Ahriman, Abyssal Demon, Arch Demon, Blood Demon, and Doom Demon.
* To the right is a map of the coffer locations. Basically, all the coffer drop mobs are in the four corners and the tunnels leading to the four corners. To get to these corners, you need to drop down into 4 different holes. But, the northwest hole will only lead to the northwest corner, and once you drop, you need to make your way back up to get to a different hole.
* Open a coffer and obtain Mique's Paintbrush (key item). Coffer can be opened on any job.
Note: If you have a current AF active from this coffer, the coffer will produce the AF and NOT the Mique's Paintbrush (key item).
NOTE: This can be picked as a Thief, since Paladin does NOT have to be your main job to obtain the Paintbrush. A 51 THF/NIN took 4 tries to pick the coffer, the first 3 being failures (no mimic) and the final yielding the paintbrush. If you attempt this as a thief, make sure you do not have Thief AF quests active as picking the lock can also yield a Rogue's Vest!
* Return to Southern San d'Oria and talk to Vemalpeau at M-7.
* Proceed upstairs in Velmapeau's house. Immediately to your left, there 3 spots that can be examined. Click on the painting on the wall above the first spot and select the option to "look behind the frame" and then "examine a letter." You will receive a key item Strange Sheet of Paper.
* Go across the street to the weapon shop (K-7) and talk to Exoroche, who will tell you that you need to dip the letter in a well in Davoi to have the ink appear.
* At G-9 there is a Village Well. (WARNING >> DON'T click on well till ready for fight) The person who needs this quest is the one who will touch the well and spawn two NMs:
* Three-eyed Prozpuz (RNG)
* One-eyed Gwajboj (PLD)
* You need a full alliance of level 55+, a full well rounded party, or high level help.
* The area should be cleared of orcs as they will link to the 2 NMs. They will aggro both sneak and inv, and Orcs usually aggro's by sight.
* The Paladin NM cannot be slept with lullaby, nor can the RNG be slept by a 75 RDM with cap enfb.
* The sneak method of pulling will make this fight easy for any lvl 75 with a Ninja subjob to solo. First clear the area of all Orcs, then (using Silent Oils or some form of sneak magic) spawn the NMs from the southeast side of the Village Well, standing as far back as you can then moving away as they spawn (they will not agro, IF you have sneak up). Go around to the south west side keeping your distance and then pull the One-eyed Gwajboj, back to a safe place to fight, if you do it this way you will only need to fight him and the other NM will not link (and given time will even despawn, meaning you only have to fight one NM).
If you are defeated/zone, you must wait until the NMs return to the well and depop then re-zone, Monastic Cavern is near, to pop the NMs again.
* Defeat the NMs to obtain the Well Weight and trade it to the Village Well for a cutscene where the letter will be typed into the log window. You will also get the Knight's Confession (key item).
* One-eyed Gwajboj drops the Well Weight whether or not the other NM is killed.
* After killing the NMs, only one Well Weight will drop. So if you have more than one PLD who needs the quest, you need to kill them both again and again.
* Next head to Northern San d'Oria and talk to Ailbeche (J-9), who will tell you about Vilbert taking him fishing in Jugner Forest.
* Go to Jugner Forest and head to the Maiden's Spring which is located in E-6 of the map. Once you get to the edge of the pond, a cutscene will occur.
* If you arrive by chocobo, you do not need to dismount to get the cutscene, though it will look as if you do.
* Finally, head back to San d'Oria where you may optionally talk to Ailbeche and Exoroche or simply head to Chateau d'Oraguille and talk to Prince Trion for a final cutscene and to obtain your reward.
Borghertz's Stalwart Hands
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
Start NPC: Guslam - Upper Jeuno (H-8)
Requirements: Paladin 50+, Must have started A Boy's Dream quest
Items Needed: Eldieme Coffer Key, Garlaige Coffer Key, Beadeaux Coffer Key
Title: None
Repeatable: Yes, see Vingijard after AF is complete.
Reward: Gallant Gauntlets, Gallant Coronet, Gallant Breeches
Previous Quest: A Boy's Dream
Next Quest: None
Walkthrough
* Speak to Guslam at H-8 in Upper Jeuno in the Durable Shields shop and accept the quest.
The Hands
* You'll need to head to Eldieme Necropolis and open a coffer there, so either:
* Obtain a Eldieme Coffer Key; or come as a thief and bring along tools to pick the lock.
* Open a coffer in Eldieme Necropolis and obtain the Old Gauntlets (key item).
* If you are reacquiring AF or getting AF for another job, skip this portion and proceed to the next step. If this is your first job, do the following:
* Head back to Upper Jeuno and talk to Guslam again, who will tell you he lacks the skill to repair them.
* Deadly Minnow, behind the counter in the same shop as Guslam, will tell you to find a Mithra at the Tenshodo for more information.
* Go to Lower Jeuno and go into the Tenshodo to talk to Yin Pocanakhu at J-8. Pay her 1,000 gil to hear her story.
* Head to Port Jeuno, go downstairs into the Auction House area, and find a ??? on some crates outside the Jeuno Duty-Free Shop (H-8).
* Click on the ??? for a cutscene and ask to have the gloves repaired.
* Go to F-8 in Castle Zvahl Baileys and touch one of the torches to spawn Dark Spark.
* Kill Dark Spark.
* Touch the torch again (make sure you touch the same torch you used to spawn him) to receive the Shadow Flames (key item).
* If other players in the party also need this key item, they can touch the torch as well - you don't have to fight him for each person.
* Head back to Port Jeuno and click on the ??? at the toolbox for a cutscene. This completes the quest.
The Rest
* Guslam mentions something about armor scattered about Vana'diel. You can find two more pieces of armor by simply opening coffers in the following zones:
* Garlaige Citadel: Gallant Coronet
* Beadeaux: Gallant Breeches
* You must open the coffer while you have Paladin as the main job.
Notes
* You must have started A Boy's Dream (AF2) before you can start this quest.
* If you have any other Borghertz's Hands quest active you will need to complete that one before you can get this quest.
* After starting the quest, you can obtain the rewards in any order.
* The quest is marked complete upon obtaining the gloves. You can still complete the other parts despite completion of the quest
(Note: extends duration of holy circle by 30 seconds)
(Note: increases chances of covering magic attacks)
