Puppetmaster AF Guide

The Wayward Automaton
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Start NPC: Iruki-Waraki - Aht Urhgan Whitegate (K-9)
Requirements: Puppetmaster Level 40+
Items Needed: none
Title: none
Repeatable: After completing AF only.
Reward: Turbo Animator

Previous Quest: No Strings Attached
Next Quest: Operation Teatime

Walkthrough
* First step is to talk to Iruki-Waraki in Aht Urhgan Whitegate. He'll tell you about wanting to recover his Automaton that was stolen when he was watching two women one day in Aht Urhgan Whitegate. You can tell it's his Automaton because it acts unique although it looks like a normal one. He asks you to go to Nashmau to look around and see if you can find the culprit. He also mentions that the person who saw it happen said it was a bald Hume.
* Go to Nashmau and talk to Dnegan (H-6, second floor). He'll mention having seen a Puppetmaster in the area recently and that he lost his gil pouch in Caedarva Mire.
* Exit through the east gate of Nashmau. Head to the east side of the lake at I-10 and cross over lily pads to reach an island with a ???. Click on the ??? to spawn a NM called Caedarva Toad. This NM may be fought using any job, so change jobs in Nashmau before spawning the monster, if you wish. Defeat it and check the ??? again for a cutscene. If you zone before checking the ??? for the cutscene you will have to fight the NM again.
* Go back to Iruki-Waraki in Aht Urhgan Whitegate to receive your Turbo Animator.

Operation Teatime
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Start NPC: Iruki-Waraki - Aht Urhgan Whitegate (K-9)
Requirements: Puppetmaster 50+
Items Needed: Sleeping Potion x1, Chai x1, Lamian Fang Key x1
Title: None
Repeatable: No
Reward: Puppetry Churidars

Previous Quest: The Wayward Automaton
Next Quest: Puppetmaster Blues

Walkthrough
*Iruki-Waraki's trying a way to get his automaton back from the thief. However, since the thief knows him, he can't do it directly. He conjures up a scheme but needs you to bring him back some items.
* Necessary items:

Sleeping Potion x1
Chai x1
Sleeping potion can be obtained from the Auction House, and Chai from the Shararat Teahouse (K/J-12) in southern Whitegate.
* After acquiring the items, trade them back to Iruki-Waraki for a cutscene. He asks you to invite the thief to have tea with you in Nashmau.
* Travel to Nashmau and speak with Dnegan at H-6 on the second floor for a cutscene.
* During the cutscene a bald hume named Yafahb will approach you. During the cutscene you are presented with three options:
Ask about the Automaton
Ask about getting around Nashmau
Invite him to drink some tea
* Select either the option for getting around Nashmau or to invite him to drink some tea. Selecting "Ask about the automaton" ends the cutscene and you will need to return another day to complete the quest.
* You will be taken back to the port where Iruki-Waraki has setup shop. He asks for you order. You get 3 choices, Chai, Coffee, and "I'll pass, thanks". Choosing either Chai or Coffee will work.
* Iruki-Waraki mixes the cups up and you have to choose which one you want. The cup with a suspicious vapor is the correct choice and won't put you to sleep. After that, Yafahb falls asleep but the Automaton runs away after being confronted by Iruki-Waraki. You then have to run to Caedarva Mire to find it.
* The ??? is at K-5 of Caedarva Mire on the same map as Azouph Isle Staging Point. However, you need to run through Arrapago Reef to get there. So your first destination is the I-6 zone to Arrapago Reef on the same map as Azouph Isle Staging Point, make sure you have a Lamian Fang Key to open the door. You can pick this key up on your way, at a ??? very near to the zone to Arrapago Reef.

There are lots of dangerous mobs on the way to (and through) Arrapago Reef so a mage sub or lots of Oil/Powders is recommended. You can change jobs to run through these areas and it will still allow you to complete the quest.

You start at I-11 on the map. You need to run to the Iron Gate at J-10 and open it up. When you get inside, you need to sneak and invisible yourself and continue running directly north through the area to J-8. Open the door there and go through. From there, go north and find the tunnel entrance at I-6. Go East and then take the fork going south in the tunnel to Caedarva Mire. The quest point location is next to a tree but be careful because a Mosshorn Ram and Elder Treant roam the area.

There'll be a cutscene with Iruki-Waraki coming to take the Automaton back but it refuses to come. He says there's nothing he can do and decides to come back later. Yafahb gives Iruki-Waraki an item that he got from the "girl" he mentioned earlier. Iruki-Waraki instead gives it to you.

Puppetmaster Blues

Start NPC: Iruki-Waraki - Aht Urhgan Whitegate (K-9)
Requirements: Puppetmaster 50+
Items Needed: none
Title: Paragon of Puppetmaster Excellence

Previous Quest: Operation Teatime
Next Quest: Achieving True Power

Walkthrough
* You do not have to wait until after midnight in Japan after completing "Operation Teatime" to start this quest.
*Speak to Iruki-Waraki. He is feeling blue, and trying to decide the best way to have Ellie return to him. He wonders why Shamarhaan picked him to be a Puppetmaster and what advice he would give about the situation.
*Go to Bastok Markets, and speak with Shamarhaan. When speaking with Shamarhaan, a cutscene will play. During the cutscene, he'll give you the key item Valkeng's Memory Chip, a memory chip from his own puppet. Next, he will tell you find a Toggle Switch in Mount Zhayolm, which must be obtained to continue the quest.
*There are two easy ways to get to this item: either by traveling to the Halvung Staging Point via the Runic Portal or by running to Halvung itself and escaping to Mount Zhayolm.
*Inside Mount Zhayolm, head to L-8. The ??? is near the cliff edge on a round manhole cover and gives the message "There is a detached part here..." to those who do not have this quest active.
*When the Toggle Switch has been obtained, go to Talacca Cove. Talacca Cove can be reached by either going through the Alzadaal Undersea Ruins or by taking the ship to Nashmau and then taking the western exit out of Nashmau
*Caedarva Mire is relatively safe area other than the Imps. Make sure to have Sneak and Invisible for chigoes, as well. Zone into Talacca Cove at E-9.
*Talacca Cove lacks mobs so feel free to run around it freely. The BCNM is at the Rock Slab at F-6, in the northwest corner of the map. The fight is called Puppetmaster Blues has a maximum of 6 people and the time limit is 30 minutes.
*When entering the BCNM, a cutscene will play. After the cutscene, an Automaton named Valkeng will appear in the middle of the BCNM. It will start out as Harlequin mode for the first 30 seconds starting from when the puppet is attacked.

Harlequin
* Weak to all types of damage.
* It will only cast Dia.

After 30 seconds, Valkeng will change into one of the three forms, depending on the type of damage it has received.
* If the majority of the damage is melee, it will change into Valoredge.
* If the majority of the damage is ranged, it will change into Sharpshot.
* If the majority of the damage is magic, it will change into Stormwaker.

After the change, every 30 seconds in the battle, it will re-evaluate the type of damage it has received, and change accordingly. The calculation is based on the total damage done during the battle, not just since the last evaluation.

Valoredge
* The Valoredge model has a high accuracy rating.
* The automaton's string clipper goes through two shadows, chimera ripper goes through one. It does not use cannibal blade
* Has high defense and physical damage reduction.
* Has low weapon delay.

Stormwaker
* Will cast Elemental Magic spells, including Ancient Magic, AOE spells, and tier IV spells.
* Casts a spell every 10 seconds.
* Has high magic resistance.
* Takes normal damage from melee and ranged attacks.

Sharpshot
* Will use ranged attacks.
* Has high accuracy and evasion.
* Has lower than average defense.
* Will fire a shot every 4-5 seconds, its ratio of melee attacks to ranged attacks is roughly 3:2.

*After the fight is over, the unit will self-destruct after asking a question (doesn't matter which answer is chosen). Return to Bastok to talk to Shamarhaan again.
*A cutscene will play in which he'll ask the same question as in the previous cutscene. As before, it doesn't matter which answer is chosen.
*After the cutscene, go see Iruki-Waraki in Aht Urhgan Whitegate again.
*A cutscene will play. After the cutscene, go to the Nashmau.
*Speak with Sajhra located at the exit port of Nashmau, and a cutscene will begin. Return to Aht Urhgan Whitegate and speak with Iruki-Waraki to begin the final cutscene, after which the Puppetry Taj is received.
